Yesterday, I called LuBob on her hospital phone early in the evening, and she answered my call!! That was the first time she has picked up the phone all by herself. We talked for a little while, she told me that Dr. Oz was on Oprah-I laughed. Andrew got on the phone with her and said, "Lola it is so good to hear your voice." All she could do was laugh-so cute!
This may sound silly to some of you, but with the close of the college football season last night I could not help but reflect on the past few months. It seems like yesterday, but also a million lifetimes ago when we watched LSU play Alabama in the ICU waiting room (with more than 25 of our closest friends and family-yes, we bring the party to hospitals too). Mom was not awake at that point, we were still holding on by a thread-and now she is talking, laughing, crying and walking. It has been a hard three months for us, it was only fitting that last night LSU win the national championship in the city that mom so loves.
Geaux Tigers!
**Had to post this pic again. It was taken Oct. 6, the night of the Florida game.

You could not be more RIGHT!!! It is totally fitting that we won last night right here in NOLA! I was downtown all day and thought about Luisa a lot thinking she would love to be celebrating in the crowds too. And how fitting that Nick Saban and Alabama was the first game we remember (since she was asking about him) and now we are National Champs. Maybe she did hear the game that day when it was playing in her ICU room and just got a little confused when she heard Saban's name. I remember that day too with all of us decked out in our purple and gold and snapping instead of clapping at the good plays so we wouldn't be too loud in the waiting room. At least it's one good memory of that first weekend. I remember going into her room that Saturday and Sunday and telling her as well as other people did about LSU and the Saints..."We just scored a touchdown, Luisa." "We just fumbled the ball, Luisa." She got to hear that Alabama game many times as your dad left the CST channel on all week as they replayed that game. Later that week when I went to visit and your dad and Uncle Jerry were there, I joked and said "Let's see who will win the Alabama game this time."
What a ride! From those first few days til now...amazing!! Luisa, keep on keeping on!! We all look forward each day to hearing the best news of our day when we read this blog.
GEAUX TIGERS!!
Charles, Robin & Chaz,
We are so excited Luisa is doing so well. Billy & I Laughed about the Nick Saban thing. It's great to hear Luisa has such a sense of humor. It shows that things are working well (even if it seems slow at times). I would love to see all of you soon. Our thoughts and prayers are with you!!!!!!
Love,
Billy, Charlotte, Lindsay & Logan
Robin,
I was fortunate to have a quick visit with your mom on Monday before the big game. I really didn't think I would get a chance to see her because I know how vigorous her rehab schedule is and I wasn't sure about visiting hours but I figured I take a chance. To my surprise, one of her nurses let me in for a quick visit because she wasn't in therapy. Luisa recognized me and my husband which was amazing to me. She answered several of my questions and gave me a thumbs up when I asked her if she planned to watch the game. I left her a LSU t-shirt to wear for the game with a gift from one of her friends from the hospital and one of the Christmas cards that didn't make it into the batch of Christmas cards from the hospital. It was really good to see her even though we both cried for a while. My thoughts and prayers will continue to be with Luisa and you guys. I know she wants out of that hospital so I know she will continue to work towards that goal.
One of my favorite pictures...so apropos for LSU...and most of all Luisa...It's so very exciting to hear of her continued progress !!!
GEAUX LUISA !!!!!!
Chris
