Today was dad's first day to watch mom go through her daily therapy routines.
First was occupational therapy. The OT came in and dressed her this morning, she told dad that she can pretty much put her top on by herself. Her bottoms are a little more difficult because her strength is still not there when bending her legs.
The speech therapist came in and worked with her for a while. She was holding up flash cards for my mom and they were pictures of things like a dog, horse, etc... Mom could not get the words out to name each thing. There is of course some confusion in her brain telling her mouth what to say-dad said she was just really frustrated bc he could tell she knew what the objects were. They served her lunch today, her first time to eat food (pureed) since the accident! He said that the ST was really impressed with how well she did. She chewed and swallowed really well. She even took the spoon and fed herself a few times and drank a little ensure by herself too.
The rash is hives we found out. The dermatologist told dad that since they have removed her off of any medication it is just going to have to take it's course, but it could take a week to clear up. The rash is not that big of a deal in the scheme of things, it is just really distracting to mom b/c she itches so bad.
Physical Therapy had mom last today. Dad watched her walk with a walker and therapists there to guide her. He said that she was supporting her own body and did pretty well with it. They took her on stairs for the first time and he said that she is just really weak, it was hard for her to bend her legs and lift them up the steps. She did this with full assistance.
All in all it was a really good day. It made dad realize that her road is long, but that there is a destination.
We are so thankful that there is a destination!
Picture is of my mom and my dad's mom (she passed away 01/2006), I can safely say they would both kill me for putting this picture up for all of you to see.

YES, as the daughter of the other mother,(Biddy), I can tell you she will be pinching everyone's toes tonight over that pic. I can also tell you in a conversation with pawpaw last week he recalled mom’s rehab from her stroke in the same hospital as Lola. He recanted mom’s progress and how her best friend Mona (her card buddy) would take playing cards and work with Biddy to count and identify the cards. They broke out in a big fight when mom insisted the 10 was a KING and would not change her mind. We both laughed. In the end mom left there with amazing strength AS WE KNOW Lola WILL. We must beleive. Love Nanny
Yea! Aunt Biddy has made the blog! When I told Granny about it, she laughed so hard. She said her sister would love it...NOT...ha ha. I have been anxiously waiting all day for today's update so I could see what really goes on in the different therapies. It all sounds good to me. She sounds like she is improving with dressing and feeding herself. The walking up stairs will come soon enough. I bet if you let her practice going up steps at Saks, she would get up much faster.
Speaking of Saks, that reminds me of a story. One Friday maybe two weeks after the accident, I spent the afternoon with your dad at the hospital. We were talking and catching up on everything. Then Debbie came up for the 5:00 visit and brought your dad his mail that had been FedEx-ed to your aunt's house. There was a huge stack of mail in there. The first piece he pulled out was your mom's Saks Fifth Avenue bill. He put it right back in the envelope and said he would deal with that later. It was so funny! He said now he would know what she really spends :) So Luisa, you may have been found out, but at least now you can use this time as an excuse to shop since you haven't spent any money lately. You have a lot of buying to catch up on!! Good luck with that!!
I was laughing so much at Aunt Biddy's picture that I forgot to comment on Luisa. That is always the smile I think of when thinking of her...a big smile with her eyes squinted. I can see that smile when someone is telling her something funny about Charles or he is telling some joke as usual. Can't wait to see that again!
Hi Robin
It's been SO exciting to read Luisa's daily progress...just amazing. The "Oldies but Goodies" at WCH went out to dinner the other night, and Luisa was with us in spirit !!! We have the entire blog "book" on the desk at work, so everyone is kept updated daily.
You are a very special person to keep Lola's page going....we appreciate it !!!!

I am so amazed everyday at your mom's progress that it actually brings tears to my eyes. It really makes you stop and think about life and how fragile it is. I think about you all everyday and I keep you in my prayers. The picture of your mom you posted the other day was just beautiful. It was also great to see the picture of Biddy (my idol)!! God bless.
That last comment was from me. Joan
Rips and Pips,
I am not believing the progress LuBob has been making! How awesome for all of you, and especially her!..."Count your blessings" surely rings true!! Robin, you are doing such a wonderful job in keeping all of us posted on how Lu is doing and it's so appreciated (I read it daily). I know your holidays have been truly blessed... Ginger
